For a full walkthrough, please reference our How-to article.

Q: Will I ever need to re-authorize Meta?

A: Yes, Customers will need to re-initiate the setup integration when:

  • The user has revoked the 6sense app’s access.

  • The user has updated their login credentials.

  • The user has removed 6sense access from their Privacy settings.

  • If 6sense is unable to reset the user’s token internally.

Q: What permissions do I need to be able to sign into Meta?

A: In order to authorize 6sense with your Meta account,

Q: What costs or fees are there to sync segments to Meta Ads?

A: You will be able to maintain an active connection between selected segments and channels, up to your sync limit, without incurring additional fees. Your sync limit reflects the number of segment syncs that your account is allowed to have active at any one time. This limit is set by the allotment specified in your contract. Note that a segment sync is defined as a unique segment being actively synced to a unique channel. There is an in-product restriction and notification if you try to sync additional segments beyond your contracted limit. Feel free to pause any unused segment syncs to make space for new ones. Alternatively, you can purchase an increased sync limit by contacting your CSM.

Q: What ad types will be available when targeting 6sense segments in Meta?

A: All Meta ad types are available for use with 6sense Segments for Meta, currently including:

  • Image Ad: 6sense recommends using images of your product or brand. See supported image formats for ads.

Q: Can Meta segments be leveraged for Instagram ads as well?

A: Yes! Meta Ads Manager includes Instagram.

Q: What is the difference between ‘actively syncing’ and ‘total synced’ segments?

A: An “actively synced segment” is a segment whose sync status is set to ON within the 6sense UI. There will be a corresponding matched audience in the Building, Ready, or Updating states within Meta.

“Total synced” segments includes all segments ever synced to Meta, regardless if they’re actively syncing or not.

Q: What is a sync limit?

A: Your sync limit reflects the number of segment syncs that your account is allowed to have active at any one time. This limit is set by the allotment specified in your contract. Note that a segment sync is defined as a unique segment being actively synced to a unique channel. There is an in-product restriction and notification if you try to sync additional segments beyond your contracted limit. Feel free to pause an unused segment sync to make space for new ones. Alternatively, consider purchasing increased sync limits by contacting your CSM.

Q: How do I increase my sync limit?

A: Please contact your CSM if you’d like to change the sync limit. They can increase it through 6sense’s backend control center.

Q: Is my sync limit shared across other 6sense advertising channels (i.e. LinkedIn, Meta, and Google Ads)?

A: Yes. Your available segment syncs can be used interchangeably across all available channels, currently including LinkedIn, Meta, and Google Ads.

Q: How do I reduce my number of synced segments?

A: To reduce the number of synced segments, toggle off the Meta sync by:

  • Navigating to the segment you want to un-sync.

  • Click the Meta badge.

  • Toggle off the synced ad account(s) associated to the segment.

Alternatively, you can navigate to the Segment Sync Management page within the Advertising section of our app to select and pause any segment sync.

Q: How do I view my actively synced segments?

A: Navigate to the Segment Sync Management page within the Advertising section of our app to review all segment syncs.

You can also view segments synced to Meta Ads from the segments dashboard by filtering to either Total synced to Meta Ads or Actively synced to Meta Ads from the filter dropdown.

Click on the actively synced number at the top of the chart to see the list of segments that are actively synced and counting towards your sync limit. The sync limit is set during onboarding and is 5 by default, but this can be adjusted by reaching out to your CSM.

Q: Do I need to provide access to my personal Meta account in order to use this feature?

A: No – you can keep your work and personal life separate.

Your Business Manager is a central space to manage your business, separate from your personal Meta profile. You don’t have to worry about mixing your business and personal content. Many users will choose to use their existing Meta profile for simplicity, but you can use your work email as well.

Q: How does 6sense match personal and business information?

A: 6sense Segments for Meta is enabled as follows:

  1. Your users may select a 6sense segment to sync to Meta.

  2. 6sense aggregates contacts via third party data sources that correspond to the companies within your selected segment, and makes the data available to Meta, including hashed contacts, via your Meta

  3. Once Meta performs the match, you can set up a Meta campaign within your Meta account to target the newly-created Meta Audience.

In order to enable creation of your segments and matches, 6sense will process data on your behalf from third party contact data providers. At this time, 6sense includes data from People Data Labs (PDL). Any changes to contact data providers for this purpose will be reflected in updates to this FAQ.

Q: Does 6sense target contacts from our connected CRM or MAP systems?

A: Currently, no. All contacts targeted on Meta are from 6sense data sources. No CRM or MAP data is being used.

Q: What geo-targeting options are available for 6sense Segments for Meta?

A: There are two options to tailor the geographic scope of ads displayed on Meta:

  1. Specify the geographic scope of a segment when creating the segment. More information on how to do this is available here.

  2. Meta tools allow you as a user to select the regions in which your ads will be displayed.

Q: Why does 6sense need permission for updating campaigns in Meta?

A: In order to keep the 6sense shared Meta segment refreshed with latest audiences, we update the segment daily. Hence, we need permissions to update the campaigns in Meta.

Q: Why does 6sense delete the old audience and recreate a new one?

A: After a segment is synced, we add/remove (or refresh) contacts from the Meta audience on a daily basis. Since, Meta doesn’t allow us to alter the contacts from the synced audience up to a certain limit, we are required to create a copy of the audience/segment and assign it to the campaign in order to refresh it. This updated audience copy gets created with the latest date.

We refresh 6sense shared Meta segments/audience in two ways to avoid campaign deactivation:

  1. If the audience is not a part of campaign, we delete and create a fresh copy of the segment immediately.

  2. If the audience is a part of any campaign, we create and replace the fresh copy of the segment immediately. However we delete the old segment the following day to avoid campaign deactivation.

Q: Why do our ad sets using 6sense segments in Meta get paused/deactivated, indicating that the audience has been deleted?

A: In a very rare situation, the ad set could get paused when the user is appending the audience with the ad set on Meta at the same time when we are refreshing the segment with the latest audiences. Basically, this can be attributed to a technical lag which is generally not anticipated.

In such scenarios, we recommend to quickly activate the paused ad sets for delivery.  Again, this is very occasional case.

Q: Why am I signed out from the Meta Integration? Do I need to sign in again?

A: The previous Meta Integration required sign-in and authentication at an organization level. With the new improvement, we will move over to user-level authentication. This means,

  1. Any registered 6sense user can now integrate their Meta Ad account with us and start syncing segments without relying on org-level authentication.

  2. Users who have not signed into Meta Integration and were relying on org-level sign-in, will now have to log-in through their respective Meta user account in order to sync new segments or view existing syncs. This is extremely important.

Q: When does 6sense pause a segment sync?

A: Currently, there are the following cases when a synced segment can be paused –

  • When the user who synced the segment no longer has access to the ad account.

  • When the ad account is disabled from Meta end.
