Important
External Media Campaigns (EMC) is no longer supported after September 2026.
To continue tracking external campaigns, use the Tracking Pixel solution.
Why is External Media Campaign (EMC) being deprecated?
EMC is being deprecated to support a more secure, scalable, and privacy-compliant tracking model. EMC relies on macro-based redirect logic, which some ad platforms identify as a security risk. These implementations can be blocked or disabled.
The Tracking Pixel solution removes this dependency and uses a simplified pixel-based tracking approach.
What is the Tracking Pixel solution, and how is it different from EMC?
EMC helped you measure campaigns running outside the 6sense platform while providing ABM insights at the campaign or ad level.
With EMC, you needed to:
Generate and deploy 6sense tracking pixels
Create a corresponding “mirror” campaign in 6sense for each external campaign
Configure platform-specific macros based on the ad platform
Maintain mappings between external campaigns and 6sense campaigns
Troubleshoot pixel, macro, and attribution issues when configurations changed
View reporting at the campaign or ad level in the UI and Data Packs
This setup required multiple steps across both 6sense and external advertising platforms, which increased setup and maintenance effort.
With the Tracking Pixel solution, you:
Use 6sense-generated universal pixels without creating or mirroring campaigns
Track campaigns across platforms that support pixel tracking
Access reporting at the pixel level
This approach reduces setup complexity and removes the need for platform-specific configurations.
Key difference
EMC requires campaign setup and platform-specific configuration for reporting
Tracking Pixels use a simplified, pixel-based approach for measuring account activity
Summary
EMC = campaign-based external measurement
Tracking Pixels = pixel-based external measurement
Do I need to recreate campaigns in 6sense?
No. You don’t need to create campaigns in 6sense.
You need to:
Create new tracking pixels
Deploy them on your external ad platforms
Is ad-level tracking supported?
No. Ad-level tracking using macros is not supported. Tracking is based on pixel events.
Will ad-level reporting be available?
No. Reporting is available at the pixel level only.
How is attribution handled?
EMC: Attribution is tied to campaign or ad exposure
Tracking Pixels: Attribution is based on account activity during the same reporting period as pixel activity
Do I need to update my pixel implementation?
Yes. You must deploy new tracking pixels that don’t rely on macro-based redirects.
Will this change affect reporting?
Feature | EMC | Tracking Pixels |
|---|---|---|
Ad-level reporting | Yes | No |
Campaign attribution | Yes | No |
Pixel-level tracking | No | Yes |
Account activity insights | Limited | Enhanced |
What are the benefits of Tracking Pixels?
More reliable tracking
Compliance with ad platform requirements
Simpler implementation
Consistent tracking across platforms
What happens to historical EMC data?
Historical EMC data remains available, subject to retention policies. Tracking Pixel data starts from the time of implementation.
Why are reporting numbers different?
Reporting methods differ by design.
EMC measures campaign performance
Tracking Pixels measure account activity during the reporting period
Differences in reported values are expected.
What is the key reporting difference?
EMC (anchored model): Activity tied to campaign exposure
Tracking Pixels (overlap model): Activity included if it occurs during the same reporting period as pixel activity
What does this mean in practice?
Tracking Pixels can include account activity that occurs within the reporting window, even if it occurred before an ad interaction within that window.
What metrics are supported?
EMC:
Accounts reached
Accounts engaged
Tracking Pixels:
Account visits
6QAs reached
New 6QAs reached
Form fills
Opportunities
All metrics are reported when they overlap with pixel activity.
